Do I have to make an appointment for a facility tour?
Facility tours are walk-in and are available from open to 15 minutes before we close. We recommend a full facility tour so that you’re aware of all of the great programs and services the YMCA offers. Tours are free to the public. The tour takes about 15 - 20 minutes and the whole family is invited to participate.


How do I become a member of the YMCA?
Feel free to take a tour of the YMCA branch of your choice any time during operating hours. As a new member, you will need to complete a membership application and pay an initial joining fee and the first month dues to get started. The YMCA requires no contracts and typically sets new members on a monthly bank draft payment plan.


I am moving to Evansville area. How do I transfer my YMCA membership to the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana Association?
Please bring a letter from your YMCA to the Downtown or Dunigan YMCA branch that states the following information:
  • You were a current member of your out of town YMCA.
  • The initial joiner fee amount you paid at the time you signed up.

YMCA joining fee will be waived, all you will be required to pay is the first month's membership fee to get started.


What are the Membership Categories?

Youth/Young Adult

Infant through age 21

Adult
Any individual 22 - 61 years of age

Single Parent Family

Includes dependents claimed on taxes this year, with only one parent in the household

Family

Two adults, dependents claimed on taxes this year living in the same residence

Senior Citizen
Person 62 years and older.

Senior Couples

Two adults, one must be 62 years or older



Can I receive assistance with cost of membership/programs?
The YMCA wants all people to take part in our programs and enjoy our facilities and services. Through our Open Doors Financial Assistance Program no one is turned away for inability to pay. Assistance is available for YMCA Memberships and programs. Contact your local YMCA for more information or

Do I need to bring in my membership card every time I use the Y?
Everyone is welcome at the YMCA. To enhance facility security, all members and program participants accessing the facility need to check in with a Member Service staff and show their membership card or program participant card. A non-member or a member who has forgotten their card is required to present a photo ID prior to accessing the facility.


Can a Member I bring in guests?
New Guest Pass Policy - Effictive April 1, 2008


Guests are welcome and we encourage potential members to try out the facility before joining. Members will be provided 2 complimentary guest passes each quarter via the member newsletter. Members can give the passes to friends and family for a one-day family or adult pass.All guests must present the pass and valid photo ID upon entering the facility. The YMCA is a membership organization and our first obligation is to our members. Guests are expected to comply with the philosophy of the YMCA. We reserve the right to restrict guest access to YMCA facilities during peak usage times.


If I go out of town can I visit other YMCAs?
The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is a member of the AWAY program and you are welcome to visit YMCAs across the country and all around the world. Policies and prices vary according to each YMCA in different cities. When inquiring about facilities and visitation, please have current membership card with you.


What is the Membership Cancellation Procedure?
A membership may be cancelled by coming into the YMCA and filling out a cancellation form. Cancellations received after the first of the month will result in the account being drafted for that month. Membership will be valid through the end of the month.


Member Code of Conduct
Using the principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility as a guide, we have implemented the following Code of Conduct to ensure that all who participate with the Y enjoy a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment.

We ask individuals to act in a manner that upholds these principles at all times when they are in our facility or participating in our programs. We expect those using the YMCA to behave in a way that show respect and caring for others, which includes not using any language or engaging in any action that can hurt or frighten another person or that falls below a generally accepted standard of conduct.
